Chickens: Fever in chickens

One of the indicators of the health of chickens is body temperature. If it is normal, then there is nothing to worry about. However, with an increase in temperature, even by only half a degree, this is already a serious deviation and a sign of the development of some kind of disease in the bird associated with the inflammatory process in the body. The higher the body temperature of feathered pets, the more difficult it will be to cope with the disease and cure the sick individual.

A normal temperature in chickens is 41-42 degrees. Any deviation from it becomes a signal to visit the veterinarian. However, you can try to treat the bird yourself, without contacting a specialist. The first step is to add potassium permanganate to the drinking water of feathered pets. You also need to slightly change the feed ration of chickens. It should contain more dry food.

The body temperature of a bird can rise for various reasons. Not always it is a consequence of infection with infectious diseases. It may just be the transfer of severe stress, for example, in hot weather. Therefore, in the summer, when the yard is more than 32 ° C, the chicken coop should not be too hot. In this case, in addition to an increase in temperature, the chickens have a decrease in appetite, severe thirst, lethargy and despondency, as well as diarrhea and other symptoms.

It is necessary to measure the temperature in chickens through the anus. But this procedure should be carried out very carefully, as this is also stressful for the bird. You can not put a dry thermometer in, before using it to measure the temperature of feathered pets, it must be lubricated with some kind of cream or petroleum jelly. In this case, the procedure will be calmer and easier. When detecting an increase in temperature in chickens, it must be measured regularly to determine the average daily temperature. And it is better not to delay the visit to the veterinarian in order to make sure that there is no danger and to make the correct diagnosis for the sick individual.
