Spanish white-faced chickens

The breed of Spanish white-faced chickens attract amateur poultry farmers not only with their high productivity rates, but also with their attractive appearance. Already by the name of the breed, you can understand that the birthplace of the bird is Spain. Feathered pets were obtained by crossing Minorok with black color and fighting breeds of chickens.

Laying hens lay an average of 180 eggs per year. Their average weight is 55 grams. The shell is white. The average survival rate for adults and juveniles is 96%. Adult laying hens grow up to two and a half kilograms, roosters gain about three kilograms of live weight.

The Spanish white-faced chicken is active and highly mobile. They can not be placed in cages and grown on a free-range content. They need regular walks in the fresh air, on green lawns, in the garden, where they can spend their energy, and also look for and eat insects, plant seeds, grass, berries, small stones.

The Spanish white-faced breed of chickens has a well-developed maternal instinct, which allows you to get offspring in a natural way, without the use of incubators. The young of these feathered pets is growing rapidly and gaining weight. The meat of this bird is tasty and very juicy.

Spanish white-faced chickens need special conditions of detention and the main reason for this is the poor tolerance of hypothermia and sudden changes in temperature, as well as high humidity in the room.

When erecting a poultry house for keeping white-faced chickens in it, the poultry farmer must take care of the flooring. You can’t make a concrete floor for them, they are very cold on it. The most acceptable, optimal option is adobe or wooden flooring.

The owner of this breed of chickens must make a good ventilation system, as well as take care of the lighting in the room. These feathered pets love lighted poultry houses. In the cold season, the chicken coop should be well insulated, and in harsh winters it can be additionally heated. It is best to pour peat mixed with sawdust, 5 centimeters thick, on the floor. Poor housing conditions and low temperatures have a negative impact on birds.

White-faced chickens need a regular stay in the fresh air, walking for a walk. But this should be a limited space so that feathered pets cannot go far from the house and yard.

The main food of the Spanish white-faced chicken is dry food. In summer, it can be represented by millet and germinated wheat, in winter – hay dust and vegetables, as well as vitamin D. Wet food for these chickens is not very acceptable. It can be given to feathered pets only occasionally, for a change. Half an hour after feeding the birds with wet food, the feeders should be cleaned, otherwise the leftovers will deteriorate and can cause stomach problems. After the main food, feathered pets can be given mineral supplements, for example, crushed shells, or chalk, as well as sand.

White-faced chickens have an attractive appearance. Their plumage is slate-black with a bluish tint, their face and lobes are snow-white, and the crest and earrings are bright red. Such individuals will become a real decoration of the yard.
