Large chickens, their features

Among the huge variety of breeds of chickens, a group stands out, which is represented by huge birds. Such feathered pets are called giants by poultry farmers. The main distinguishing feature of such individuals is their great weight. Adult hens gain up to four kilograms of live weight, roosters weigh about five and a half kilograms.

Giant chickens are birds of meat breeds. However, not many household owners are currently involved in their cultivation. This is due to a number of reasons, the main of which is the creation of a large room and walking area for keeping feathered pets, since birds require a lot of space.

In addition to meat, which comes out much more than when raising conventional breeds of chickens, these birds lay rather large eggs, weighing from 55 to 60 grams. The annual egg production of giant hens averages 100-150 eggs.

The most popular and widespread breeds are Cochinchin, Cornish, Brama, Hungarian Giants and Dorking. All these birds have a massive, powerful physique, strong legs, and a lot of weight. Basically, these feathered pets are characterized by a calm character, quiet disposition. They easily and quickly get used to any conditions of detention.

However, in the modern world, giant chickens are bred by poultry farmers as decorative chickens that will decorate the courtyard, and also in order to preserve the breed. Breeding these birds in the backyard will require a lot of free space, which is not beneficial even for the owner of the household, not to mention the breeding of chickens for industrial purposes. Another disadvantage of large breeds of chickens is the slow growth of young animals.

Such individuals will become an excellent decoration of the yard, thanks to their bright, lush, beautiful plumage. They are also excellent hens, which can also play an important role in breeding chickens.
