Chickens: The chicken’s eyes are swollen: causes, treatment

Sometimes chicken owners are faced with such a phenomenon in their feathered pets as eye swelling. However, immediately, on the move, it is impossible to correctly diagnose and determine what caused this symptom. And all because there can be several diseases accompanied by such problems.

If chickens have swollen eyes, you should seek help and advice from a specialist – a veterinarian as soon as possible. It is possible that there is nothing to worry about, but it may be the other way around, the disease can be serious.

One of the most dangerous diseases accompanied by swelling of the eyes in chickens is typhoid. In addition to eye problems, feathered pets experience loss of appetite, loose stools, lethargy, and apathy.

In addition to typhoid, laying hens can have swollen eyes with inflammation of the eyes and lacrimal ducts, chlamydia, infectious laryngotracheitis, and other diseases associated mainly with eye damage. The cause of eye swelling in chickens can be identified by observing the bird and identifying other symptoms that will help determine what feathered pets are sick with.

If the laying hen has inflamed eyeballs and tear ducts, it is necessary to treat eye swelling in chickens with tetracycline ointment and feeding the bird a large amount of vitamin A, since it is severely lacking in the body.

Another disease associated with eye swelling is sinusitis. In addition to this symptom, feathered pets can experience convulsions, sneezing, mucus discharge from the nose, and sticking of feathers on the head.

It should be understood that it is necessary to correctly diagnose before starting treatment. Otherwise, it will not bring any results, and may greatly harm the bird.
