Chickens: Metronidazole for chickens

Like any other domestic animals and birds, chickens are susceptible to various diseases, both infectious and non-infectious. And it is very important to prevent infection of the bird at an early age, when its immunity is just beginning to strengthen. Therefore, in the first-aid kit of experienced poultry farmers there are always some drugs that are especially important for chickens: metronidazole, tetracycline, levomiticin, penicillin and others.

The most common drug for small feathered pets is metronidazole. He often helps the owner of the household from the death of a bird. With the help of this drug, poultry farmers are struggling with trichomoniasis, which is a parasitic infection that affects the mucous membranes. Veterinarians often advise chicken owners to use the drug for preventive purposes. This avoids the unwanted death of feathered pets at an early age.

The main advantage of metronidazole is the absence of side effects in it, which are also undesirable for chickens. This drug is presented in various forms: in tablets, powder, suppositories and balls. The most popular and convenient is the powder, which is diluted in water, after which it is instilled into the bird’s mouth with a syringe or pipette.

To avoid infection of chickens with trichomoniasis, you need to take care of their content. First of all, they should be in a warm, dry, well-ventilated and clean chicken coop. Secondly, the walking area for feathered pets should be well fenced off so that wild birds, which are the main carrier of the disease, do not fly into it. Thirdly, you should take care of high-quality and balanced feeding of poultry, as this directly affects the immunity and health of the entire population of chickens.
