Potato variety Rosara: description with photo, characteristics, reviews

Rosara potatoes are among the four leaders among the varieties of this crop in terms of prevalence in the world. Its high commercial qualities made it popular not only among summer residents, but also among agricultural producers. Thanks to a detailed description, photos and reviews, such advantages are distinguished from the characteristics of the variety – high yield (up to 420 c / ha), early maturity, the same size of almost all tubers, tolerance to weather conditions and some harmful organisms (nematode, potato cancer).

Potatoes “Rosara”: description and characteristics

In the 90s. of the last century, an early variety of a culture popular around the world was bred in the vast German fields. It was entered into the Russian state register in 1996. Despite the fact that since then many varieties and hybrids of both foreign and domestic breeding have appeared, this potato does not give up its position as one of the leaders. Cultivation regions: Central black earth, Middle Volga, Far East and Siberia. Farmers grow Rosara even in the difficult agro-climatic conditions of the Urals.

General characteristics

The variety is represented by lush bushes of medium height (no more than 60 cm), formed by erect branched shoots. The stems are covered with dark green ovoid leafy plates. In the flowering phase, purple inflorescences appear, collected at the very top of the shoots. The root system is branched. This allows plants to easily endure periods of drought.

Tubers that are ready to be dug up already 45-50 days after germination are covered with a thin skin. The color can vary – from pink to deep crimson. Smooth, elongated potatoes are evenly covered with small eyes. One bush yields 15-18 tubers. Although on highly fertile soils, the number can reach 25 pieces. The mass of a commercial tuber is 80-115 g. The yield depends on the period of excavation: when technical ripeness is reached on the 65-75th day after germination, it can be 420 c / ha. At the beginning of the ripening period, a crop of 250-300 c / ha is harvested.

The color of the flesh is creamy. The starch content of 13% affects the poor digestibility, so the variety is little used for frying. The soft, not sugary couscous was highly rated by the tasters – 4,5-5 points on a five-point scale. The purpose is universal – use for cooking immediately after digging, storage, transportation and sale.

Note!

The seed stock of the variety does not need to be replaced for a long time. For about five years, it will give a stable yield in the form of even tubers of almost the same size.

Advantages and disadvantages

Rosara has few drawbacks, which is a strong argument in favor of its prevalence. Among them, it is distinguished that potatoes are not suitable for frying and have spreading bushes. The latter makes it difficult to leave. There are many more advantages:

  • tolerance to genetic diseases of culture;
  • a small number of eyes;
  • good taste for an ultra-early variety;
  • short growing season;
  • resistance to mechanical damage;
  • transportability and keeping quality;
  • marketability – over 91% of the harvested crop;
  • versatility of use;
  • crop stability in various agro-climatic zones.

Peculiarities of growing

Potato variety Rosara: description with photo, characteristics, reviews

Despite the excellent characteristics of the variety, declared by the originators, in order to realize its full potential, it is necessary to take into account the agrotechnical requirements for its cultivation. In the process of growing, several stages are distinguished:

  • selection and preparation of planting material;
  • tillage;
  • landing;
  • care during the growing season;
  • harvesting ripe tubers.

Planting potatoes

The variety grows well on different soils, but prefers light ones, with a loose structure and good drainage qualities without stagnant moisture. In the fall, the area after legumes, pumpkin or cruciferous crops is dug up, at the same time laying humus, compost with the addition of superphosphate and potassium salt. The main thing is not to choose the areas where nightshades grew last season.

A month before planting, seed tubers weighing 50 g are removed from the basement and laid out in one layer. The first two weeks are kept in a light room where the potatoes are placed, the temperature is about 20 ° C, then for another seven days the mercury column is lowered to 6 ° C. In the last week, the tubers are heated in the sun to turn the skin green. This indicates its thickening.

They start planting “Rosary” when at a depth of 10 cm the temperature of the soil becomes 12 ° C. In cooler regions, in order to carry out field work early, they use the old technique – planting “in boiling water”. Sequencing:

  1. Prepare holes 6-10 cm deep, depending on the density of the soil.
  2. Maintain a distance between the planting pits of 40 cm, and between the rows – 70 cm.
  3. If necessary, spill with hot water – about 80 °.
  4. Potatoes are placed sprouts up, sprinkled with earth (if the site was not fertilized in the fall, then a handful of compost, 5-10 g of urea are poured into the holes).

Note!

If large tubers come across among the planting material, they can be divided into several parts. The weight of each should not be less than 50 g.

Care

No special care is required for “Rosara”. It is enough to carry out standard measures for the cultivation of potatoes:

  1. Watering – they moisten the bushes only during periods of severe drought. Water procedures are carried out in the evening in small portions, so that water does not get on the shoots.
  2. Soil processing – the beds are kept clean, removing weeds in time. The inter-row spacing after precipitation is loosened so that oxygen is supplied to the tubers. After the shoots reach a height of 10-15 cm, the potatoes are spud.
  3. Top dressing – if the soil is fertile, then additional enrichment with macro and microelements can be omitted. However, experienced gardeners and agricultural producers still recommend feeding the bushes with the help of organic matter and mineral phosphorus-containing agrochemicals. This will increase the productivity of the variety.
  4. Protection against diseases and pests – despite good immunity, Rosara potatoes can infect late blight with systematic waterlogging of the soil, as well as the Colorado potato beetle. To protect the future harvest from shortage, the plantings are treated with a tank mixture, including a fungicide and an insecticide. The conditions for use depend on the selected drugs and are indicated by the manufacturer on the packaging.

Cleaning and storage

15 days before digging the potatoes, the tops are mowed. This redirects the energy towards filling the tubers and increasing starch levels. Since the potatoes are located directly under the bush, they are removed with a fork, the shovels are practically without damage. After the crop is laid out in a place protected from direct sunlight for drying. After 2-3 days, the tubers are sorted, removing the affected by the disease, and stored. The place should be dry, dark, with a temperature of 4-6 ° C.

Note!

Potatoes are stored in wooden boxes or mesh bags. In the latter, it is easier to control the safety of tubers, removing rotten specimens in time.

Reviews

Eugene, 43 years old:

“I live in the Irkutsk region. In this region, with its characteristic difficult weather conditions, Rosara is showing good results. If you prepare a site in the fall, apply potash fertilizers, you can collect up to 500 kg from 1 hundred parts by the end of summer. The cultivar has a short growing season, which makes it possible to harvest the potatoes before the cold snap, planting the tubers in late spring. “

Svetlana, 51 years old:

“A productive variety. However, it is impossible to realize the declared potential without systematic care. When growing “Rosary” noted one minus – the spreading of the bushes. When the shoots lie down, it becomes difficult to process the soil (huddle, loosen). I estimate the taste as average. I use a different variety for mashed potatoes. However, for fries or chips, this one is great. ”

Oleg, 47 years old:

“Since I cultivate potatoes in the Khabarovsk Territory, we have singled out such an advantage of the“ Rosara ”variety – early maturity, tolerance to late blight. I plant the seed tubers early, prepare high ridges for them, put sawdust and compost in there to create warmer conditions. Before harvesting for half a month, I must break the shoots. The trick allows the tubers to fill up better. “

Rosara potatoes are a competitive variety. Producers have paid attention to it for a reason. When performing simple agricultural techniques, after 50-60 days, you can harvest a rich harvest of tasty potatoes.
