Not all parcels can accommodate a standard-sized basswood. This beautiful tree grows up to 30 meters in height, and the spreading branches provide dense shade. Therefore, summer residents are often interested in compact varieties that will not take up much space.
Rathaus
Rathaus is an ornamental variety of large-leaved linden. The tree has a dense dense crown, the leaves are dark green, embossed. It is characterized by rapid growth, height – 14-20 m.
Young linden is columnar, but with age, the crown becomes more spreading. Blossoms in June, forms nuts. Young foliage is light, light green, more mature – dark green. In autumn, the leaves turn yellow and fall off.
Rathaus prefers fertile, drained soils and takes fertilizing well during active seasons (spring, summer, autumn). Bright, sunny places are best suited for planting, but the tree feels good in light partial shade.

Fastigiata Favorite
Fastigiata Favorite – large-leaved linden, decorative. The crown is even, vertical, decorated with straight red shoots. The growth rate is average, the height is not less than 11 m. The leaves are large, shaped like a heart, the color is dark green.
The first time after planting the plant is recommended to tie up. The soil should be not waterlogged, moderately drained.
It is better to plant linden in sunny areas, light partial shade is allowed. It tolerates frost well, watering it requires only the first days after planting and in especially dry seasons.
The shape of the crown can be adjusted by cutting and trimming. A mulching layer (9-13 cm of peat or wood chips) is required around the trunk.
Fastigiata
The Fastigiata linden tree has a narrow pyramid-shaped crown. A tree with large dark green leaves. In autumn, they fall off, pre-painted in shades of yellow.
The flowers are larger than those of other species, the tree begins to bloom in June. Height can reach 20 m, crown diameter – about 4 m.
The plant prefers fertile and moderately moist soils. Loves sunny areas, can only endure light partial shade. A frost-resistant variety, it can also endure a short drought.
Linden has a high resistance to diseases and a good response to fertilizers (especially the tree welcomes ash and liming). The shape of the crown can be easily corrected by trimming. Recommended for landscaping narrow streets and for planting along the fence.
Green Globe
Green Globe is a small-leaved linden variety. It has a dense spherical crown, which can reach 6-8 m in diameter. The tree is standard and its height depends on the height at which the graft was made.
Usually the height of the Green Globe does not exceed 5-8 m. The leaves are heart-shaped, much smaller than those of other varieties. In the autumn, the foliage turns yellow, and later falls off. The tree blooms in late June – early July, flowers are small and fragrant.
Loves light, does not tolerate shady places. Grows best in fresh, fertile and well-hydrated soils. Reacts very badly to drought. For the best growth, the soil must be limed annually, and the pruning should be done once every 5 years.
Tokorish type
The Tokorish type is a linden tree with small, dark green, heart-shaped leaves. The tree grows more than 10 m from the ground. The crown is formed by straight vertical shoots, densely located. Blooms in July, after flowering forms fruits in the form of nuts.
The Tokorish type is photophilous and does not like shade. Hardy and tolerates urban environments, but does not respond well to salty soils. In the growing season requires feeding (liming, ash, nitrogen fertilizers). Formative pruning is best done in summer.
Silver Globe
Silver Globe is a felt linden tree with dark green leaves and a spherical crown. On the reverse side, the foliage has a white edge. The tree is a standard tree, no more than 6 m in height, and 3 m in diameter. The Silver Globe bloom is a rare phenomenon.
Linden is resistant to drought and frost, not demanding on the soil. The tree loves light, but can do well in light shade. Dislikes strong winds. To keep the crown spherical, it is recommended to prune once every 1 years.
