Indoor dracaena: varieties and care

Indoor dracaena: varieties and careMany consider the Dracaena palm to be a purely “office” plant, but this is a misconception. Caring for a room dracaena is not at all difficult, and conditions for its growth can be created in every apartment.

There are not so few varieties of dracaena, so any florist can choose the one he likes best for himself: with narrow leaves and wide; dark, light or veined, with a powerful trunk or graceful.

Dracaena varieties in the apartment and their photos

Family: Dracene, deciduous, decorative, shade-tolerant.

The most unpretentious dracaena in the apartment is bordered dracaena (Dracaena marginata). A thin straight stem, periodically dividing into 2-3 trunks, narrow, long (up to 70 cm), arched-drooping leaves gracefully fit into any interior. The austere elegance of this plant will emphasize the business mood of the study, and a cascade of “flowing” leaves will add peace to the reception or living room.

You can choose a variety with variegated foliage, for example, “Tricolor” – with golden yellow longitudinal stripes, “Colorama” – with wide red stripes.

Pay attention to the photo of dracaena variety “Borinkuensis” – a dark green strip runs along the edge of the leaf, grows quickly (in 2-3 years it can grow up to 3 m).

Caring for indoor dracaena at home

Optimal care for these dracaena at home: bright diffused lighting, moderate temperatures all year round, humidity about 60%, regular moderate watering and spraying.

But even under conditions far from such an ideal, the dracaena will not die, perhaps it will be more “ankle” (from insufficient lighting, it stretches more, and the lower leaves dry out and fall off more intensively). But it is easy to form – you can find specimens with intertwined trunks, or in the form of a “branchy tree”.

If you are tired of the “long stick with leaves on top”, you can fearlessly cut it off, remembering to process the cuts with crushed coal, – a couple of “dormant buds” will surely wake up, and the resulting cuttings root well in sand or water. You can transplant once every two years into a soil mixture of sod land, compost and sand (1: 1: 1).

Caring for home flowers dracaena of the Sandera variety

For lovers of minimalism, originals or fans of feng shui teachings – Dracaena sanderiana, or Lucky Bamboo.

Bright green, segmented stems, similar to bamboo shoots, twisted in a spiral or tied in a bundle of 3 to 21 pieces.

On them, lateral shoots with gray-green slightly twisted long leaves develop from dormant buds. This dracaena can not be planted in the soil at all. Looks great in a glass vase with water or colored hydrogel. The water should be changed every two weeks and fertilizer for the dragon fruit should be added. The leaves are washed periodically. Lighting – diffused, room temperature. That’s all the care for homemade dracaena flowers – but, according to feng shui, this plant attracts all the variants of positive energy into the house: success, health, good mood, financial well-being. This is a universal gift – a “lucky bamboo” can be presented to a man, a woman, and a whole company as a sign of your respect.
