Features of growing cucumbers in greenhouses

Green and full of pimples – this is what the perfect cucumber looks like. It should also be tasty, crispy and fragrant. With a greenhouse or greenhouse, early harvest dreams come true.

Sowing and picking seedlings of cucumbers

Seeds for seedlings can be sown immediately in separate containers or in common containers with subsequent picking. The soil is prepared two to three weeks before sowing. The seeds are buried by 1–1,5 cm, pressing the soil, as if β€œpinching” it. Or sprinkle the crops with a seedling mixture, perlite or vermiculite and lightly compact. Do not forget to sprinkle the substrate with water after planting and cover with a film to retain moisture. Containers for growing seedlings should be strong, opaque and have drainage holes.

Seedlings can be dived 5-7 days after germination – in the phase of well-developed cotyledon leaves. After picking, the plants are watered. It is possible to grow seedlings in cassettes up to the phase of the first true leaf with their subsequent transplantation (transshipment) into pots.

The optimal temperature for the development of young cucumbers

Before germination (two or three days), the containers are kept at a temperature of +25…+28 Β°C. After their appearance, the shelter is removed, and the seedlings are transferred to the brightest place with a daily temperature of + 20 … + 22 Β° Π‘. In the first three or four days after germination, the night temperature should be + 16 … + 17 Β° C, which will prevent seedlings from stretching, and then + 19 … + 20 Β° C. The difference between day and night temperatures is the key to a good development of the root system.

Care and formation of cucumbers in the greenhouse

Features of growing cucumbers in greenhousesCucumbers are planted in a permanent place in the greenhouse in the phase of three or four true leaves. Spring complex mineral fertilizers are applied to the soil before sowing. Next, the cucumber is fed once every seven to ten days with nitrogen-potassium fertilizers (N: K – 1: 2). Water every two days or as the soil dries out. You can tie up and begin to form plants three to four days after planting seedlings.

Cucumber hybrids with a bouquet arrangement of ovaries are formed by removing side shoots to the trellis. The twine is wrapped around the plant (and not the plant around the twine), without missing a single internode.

The meaning of the formation of cucumbers is to first collect the maximum yield from the main shoot, and then continue harvesting on the side shoots.

Do not forget to remove yellowed leaves and fruiting shoots, leaving no β€œstumps”. It is better to take fruits every day so as not to overload the plants.

Watering in the greenhouse and greenhouse is carried out in the first half of the day only with warm water (not lower than + 18 … + 20 Β° Π‘). Humidity during the day and β€œdryness” at night will reduce the likelihood of developing diseases.
