Dorado benefit and harm

Dorado (dorado, golden spar, corifena) is a fish from the spar family, the so-called sea carp (Latin Sparus aurata).

Natural habitat – the Mediterranean Sea and part of the Atlantic Ocean, mainly in the Eastern and Southeastern parts of it. Separate flocks can occasionally be found off the coast of the Black Sea, but this is rather an exception.

It is a rather large fish with a beautiful blue-green or blue-yellow color, a forked tail and an elongated dorsal fin. Dorado is a valuable product and one of the first fish to be raised in captivity since ancient times. The ancient Romans equipped special ponds and pools with salt water, suitable for the habitat and breeding of the gilthead. Its meat is unusually tasty and nutritious, and sharp fang-like teeth have long been actively used in jewelry.

Composition and useful properties

Since those ancient times, this fish has been one of the most beloved in the Mediterranean countries, and in other countries it is very revered due to its excellent taste and high content of nutrients. Dorado contains quite a lot of protein – about 20 grams per 100 grams of product, and relatively little fat – 1,3 grams. At the same time, the calorie content of dorado is only 96 kcal.

Dorado benefit and harm

The chemical composition of Dorado differs in the content of beta-carotene (vitamin A), as well as B vitamins (thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, folic and pantothenic acids). Mineral elements are also quite diverse: iron, magnesium, calcium, phosphorus, sulfur, zinc, selenium, copper, iodine, zinc, manganese. As you can see from the above figures, dorado meat contains the maximum amount of protein with the minimum content of fat, which makes it a dietary product and very useful for health.
