For perennial bulbous primroses, cyclical life processes are characteristic. It is thanks to this that it is possible to plant such plants in the fall, so that next year the garden will delight with bright spring colors.
Narcissus
A popular spring flower with tough leaves and a thick stem. It has six petals and a tubular perianth funnel of different colors.
Daffodils are planted for four weeks starting from August 15 in the ground at 8-10 ° C. During this time, the bulb will give roots and have time to prepare for wintering.
So that there are no shoots, the landing site is covered with mulch (5 cm), for the winter the protective layer is increased to 15 cm. It is harvested in the spring (as soon as the snow melts).
If there is no precipitation, watered for 2-3 weeks after planting. In case of heavy rains, cover with foil.
Hyacinth
A bright fragrant flower is demanding to care for when grown at home, but in a garden it is enough to follow the rules and dates of planting.
The optimum soil temperature at a depth of 15 cm should be at the level of 7-10 ºС. In central Russia and the Moscow region, the right time comes around the end of September. In Siberia, in the Urals – in the first half of September (with a need for shelter). In the south, in October.
It is important that the first frost does not occur before the hyacinth takes root (about 3 weeks after planting), so you need to watch for changes in the weather. An early drop in temperature is detrimental to the plant (in such a case, the future flower garden is covered with a film).
Scylla
Or a scrub. A small perennial blooming in spring (some species in autumn). Unpretentious, tolerates low temperatures well, is resistant to diseases, adapts to various conditions. Depending on the species, one brush contains from 3 to 15 flowers.
Rounded bulbs are purple or brown with scales. They are planted in the ground, as a rule, at the beginning of autumn to a depth of 8 cm with an interval of 7-10 cm. Watering and shelter for the winter (mulching) are mandatory.
Muscari
The primrose, which has up to 7 leaves in a rosette and a straight peduncle with several buds, was named for its musky aroma.
Muscari bulbs are small, 1,5-4 cm long and up to 2 cm in diameter, so they are planted no deeper than 3 cm.
Planting is possible until mid-October. In Siberia – at the end of August. If the bulbs are previously kept in the cold for 3-4 days, then rooting will occur faster. Such events are relevant for regions with a sharply continental climate. Also, fertilizing and mulching should not be neglected.
Muscari is poisonous, therefore, it is recommended to carry out any work with the plant with gloves.
Pushkin
Or dwarf hyacinth (height no more than 20 cm). Flowering occurs in the second half of April-May (up to three weeks). The bulb is medium-sized, ovoid, brown. They are planted in early autumn (September-October), embedded in the ground no deeper than 7 cm (depending on the size of the material), at intervals of 10 cm. Mulch with humus or peat, which are not removed in spring, but renewed.
Hionodox
They sprout simultaneously with snowdrops and bloom for up to three weeks. Bells are collected in brushes, leaves up to 12 cm in length are saturated with green color.
Chionodox are planted in early autumn. The place is selected sunny or in partial shade. The more light the plant receives in spring, the faster it will bloom. Placing in the shade will delay the onset of flowering, but make it longer. Soils are suitable neutral or slightly alkaline, fertilized, loose, well-moistened, but without stagnant water. The plant tolerates frost, but it is better to cover it with spruce branches, foliage, and special material.
Crocus
Or saffron. Early flowering (spring) crocuses and those that bloom in late summer are distinguished. In this case, the first are planted in the ground in the fall, and the autumn ones – in the summer. Therefore, it is important to know the initial characteristics of the planting material, because autumn crocuses may not take root and die in the winter.
The landing time depends on the climate and weather conditions, but the approximate dates are late August – early November. The colder the region, the earlier the flowers are planted. It is necessary that at least a month remain in stock before the start of frost. Watering and additional protection of the flower bed are required when the weather changes
Tulip
For proper growth and development, a tulip needs wintering in the ground. For this, bulbs with a diameter of at least 4-6 cm are planted in the fall (mid-September-October). Soil temperature should be consistently no higher than 10 ºС. The planting depth is 15 cm, subject to the distance between flowers from 5 to 15 cm and up to 20 cm between rows.
It takes up to 4 weeks for a tulip to root and prepare for winter, no watering is needed. It is necessary to cover only when cold weather sets in.
