Sansevieria flower at home

Sansevieria flower at homeFlower sansevieria (Sansevieria)often referred to as “pike tail” or “mother-in-law’s tongue” is one of the favorite plants of indoor florists. Types of sansevieria with elongated leaves can be braided into fancy “braids”, and varieties with wide leaves are often used to create “Japanese gardens” on windowsills.

At home, sansevieria will withstand both temperature drops (excluding critical ones) and prolonged drought – you can go to the country for a couple of weeks with a light heart, without worrying that the plant will dry out.

Home sansevieria care

Family: Agave, deciduous, ornamental, shade-tolerant.

Caring for home sansevieria is absolutely not difficult – this is perhaps the most persistent of the generally recognized unpretentious indoor plants. It can not only survive in any conditions, but also grow well and look great. Good lighting or poor lighting, drafts and tobacco smoke, or a prolonged New Year’s holidays – all these sansevierias are not scary. Much more dangerous for her is an overly caring hostess with a watering can, or a “walrus” owner who practices hardening procedures with a decrease in room temperature to negative values. Excess moisture, especially the ingress of water into the leaf outlet, and very low temperatures are two reasons that can ruin the “mother-in-law’s tongue”. It is enough to fertilize once a month with fertilizers for cacti. Transplanted when the container becomes very tight.

Types of sansevieria flower

A variety of species allows you to select specimens for any interiors, use both in group compositions of any size, and as a tapeworm.

There are well-known species with rosettes of 6-8 xiphoid long (up to 120 cm) hard leaves standing almost vertically – three-lane Sansevieria “Laurentii” (Sansevieria trifasciata ‘Laurentii’).

Color options are varied: with dark green transverse stripes on a grayish-green background, with two golden longitudinal stripes along the edges of green leaves, with stripes with a red tint, and others. And as a bonus – discreet greenish-white flowers, collected in racemose inflorescences, which bloom at night and fill the room with a fabulous aroma.

As you can see in the photo, Sansevieria large (Sansevieria grandis) leaves are shorter (up to 60 cm) and wider (about 15 cm), light green with dark transverse stripes and a reddish border around the edge.

Not all varieties have such long leaves; in the hahnii variety, rosettes are formed by leaves up to 10 cm long.

Pay attention to the photo of Sansevieria kirkii var. Pulchra of the Coppertone variety – this is a low-growing plant with a rare, brown leaf color.

Indoor plant sansevieria in design

The indoor plant sansevieria in your windowsill design serves as a spectacular backdrop for plants with feathery leaves or small flowers. Tall forms in floor tubs look very good as accent plants, and undersized varieties can be used to decorate the soil of indoor standard plants such as ficuses or palm trees.

You can pick up miniature species for the “bottle garden” or terrarium. Sansevieria is indispensable for a children’s room – what other plant will depict the “impassable jungle”? They are absolutely safe for the kid and can withstand any attempts (and even “biting”) of a little researcher.

Of the useful properties, it is noted that in the air of the premises where the “pike tail” is placed, after a while the number of pathogenic microorganisms and the content of benzene and trichlorethylene are significantly reduced.
