A Brief History of Knabstruppers

At the beginning of the 19th century, the butcher Klebe lived in the small village of Knabstrub. He bought a mare named Flebenhoppen with a chubar color. Her ancestors were Spanish horses. The horse turned out to be very frisky and hardy, distinguished by good health and high intelligence. According to some sources, the butcher subsequently sold the horse to Judge Lunn.

She was crossed with a Frederiksborg stallion. The mare gave birth to a beautiful foal, whose hair shimmered with silver. It was from him that the history of the Knabstrupper breed began.

By the end of the 19th century, the village of Knabstrub was going through hard times, so almost no one was engaged in the selection of horses of a new breed. Luckily, a Danish veterinarian showed interest in animals. On his initiative, an association of spotted horses was created. With this move, the population gradually increased.
