Anglo Arabian horse

Breeding horse breeders have always strived to develop versatile horse breeds that successfully combine endurance and speed. Aesthetic characteristics are also of no small importance. An excellent example of the successful work of breeders is the Anglo-Arab horse.

Anglo-Arab breed

History

The breed took the best from both genotypes. Arab roots gave her a considerable height (the height at the withers reaches 166 centimeters) and the ability to move at a fast gallop. From the English ancestors, she got endurance – these horses are able to move for hours at a tireless trot.

Of course, the combination of blood can be different – with an ideal ratio, flexible, hardy and unpretentious horses are obtained. They are great for military purposes and show off brilliantly at all kinds of sporting events. No wonder animals of this variety were used for the military needs of France and for many years were one of the best examples of universal riding horses.

The history of the breed

For the first time, the Anglo-Arabian breed of horses was bred in England, although today it is bred in different countries. The Anglo-Arabs are most popular today in France. Perhaps this is the reason for the best results of French breeders. Representatives of the French “variation” have more powerful muscles than their British relatives.

Animal breeding in France was kept under government control, and the main stud farm, which bore the sonorous name “Pompadour”, was financed by government appropriations. Such close attention at the highest level is due to the fact that France has historically experienced a shortage of quality horses that could be used for military purposes (for the needs of light cavalry).

“Pompadour” successfully coped with the task, and its closure in 1861 severely crippled the horse breeding of the French state. After 13 years, they tried to revive it, but the time was lost, the channels of economic ties and supplies were destroyed. As a result, the breeding of this breed of horses could not return to its previous level.

French Anglo Arabian horses excelled both in military service and at sporting events. They even have Olympic gold in show jumping. Of recent achievements, it is worth noting the silver medals in triathlon won by French athletes at the 1993 European Championships.

The results of the work of other states to create their own hybrids of English and Arabian horse breeds can hardly be called successful, despite the efforts made. No one has succeeded more than the French in this matter. Even the British – avid horse breeders, could not achieve such impressive results, although they planned to completely replace the thoroughbred English horses with Anglo-Arabs.

Reference. English horse breeders have spent many years and money trying to develop the perfect Anglo-Arabian horse, but they have not been able to achieve significant success in breeding universal riding horses. Their copies were admittedly “small” and more suitable for use by women.

Exterior

The appearance of horses will delight all fans of these smart and kind animals without exception:

  • The chest in such animals is highly developed and produces a feeling of strength and reliability.
  • The growth at the withers of the classic representatives of the breed ranges from 155–166 centimeters.
  • The eyes are large and expressive.
  • The neck is long, with a beautiful bend.
  • Long, strong, dry legs and a high-set tail complement the appearance of these beauties.

Anglo-Arab horses have a wide stride and a natural tendency to jump, which leads to their impressive show jumping performances.

Character

The nature of these horses is energetic. They are smart and accommodating. Anglo-Arabs can be called reliable and courageous horses, but due to their energy it will be difficult for a beginner to cope with them, therefore only experienced riders are recommended to ride animals.

Conclusion

The Anglo-Arabian breed of horses has been successfully coping with the tasks assigned to it for more than a century and a half. Its representatives were good in war times, and today they often take prizes in numerous sports competitions. This is not surprising, a natural tendency to jump, endurance, energy and intelligence are the criteria that determine their success.
