Elderberry benefit and harm

For the preparation of medicinal preparations, all parts of the plant are used with benefit – bark, leaves, shoots, flowers and berries. Tinctures are made from the berries, oils are extracted from the roots and bark, and the leaves are used to prepare various decoctions.

Application in folk medicine

Elderberry tea, red and black, is used as an anti-cold and diaphoretic remedy; it has antipyretic, sedative and expectorant effects. Why is elderberry broth useful? It is indicated for bronchitis and tracheitis, gout, sciatica, constipation, rheumatism and urolithiasis.

And what use did the flowers of black elderberry find? The infusion of them is very effective for diseases of the ear, throat and nose, various tonsillitis, sinusitis and otitis media, as well as for pneumonia, asthma and flu. It should be noted that when preparing medicinal preparations based on elderberry, the exact dosage is very important, because an overabundance of this useful and potent medicinal plant is fraught with various complications and can even harm the body.

Elderberry in cooking

Elderberry is widely used not only in medicine, but also finds its place in cooking. Berries are used to make jelly, compotes and preserves, as well as lemonades, cider, wine and various bitters.
