Tomatoes “Manhood” or tomatoes “women’s happiness”? More correctly – the joy of the gardener!

A wide variety of varieties puts gardeners in front of a difficult choice of tomatoes suitable for planting in certain conditions and for specific purposes. Only a close acquaintance with the variety will help to make a choice in its favor. The type of fruits “Manhood” most often causes a smile, but its characteristics deserve respect. This hybrid variety was registered in 1998. Another name for the variety is “Auria”.Three Auria tomatoes

Briefly about the main

Variety “Manhood” refers to a group of tomatoes with unlimited stem growth, that is, it is indeterminate. The bush is liana-shaped, the plant reaches a height of 1.5-1.8 m, and in a greenhouse the length of the stem can be much more than two meters. The plant is fast-growing, requires the formation of a bush of no more than two stems.

A prerequisite for obtaining a good harvest is the constant removal of lateral processes and part of the leaves. More than 10 brushes can be laid on one stem, and from 6 to 10 ovaries in one brush. Fruits can reach a weight of 200 g, but if many ovaries are formed, they are somewhat smaller.

Original, strongly oblong fruits (up to 15 cm in length), red with a forked end, ripen in 110-120 days, which indicates the middle maturity of the variety. The fruits have a dense, juicy pulp, a small number of seed chambers (2-3) and small seeds. They are covered with a thin, elastic skin that is resistant to cracking. The fruits are transportable, in a refrigerator they can keep their presentation and taste for up to two months.Growing tomatoes Auria

Tomato of this variety has excellent taste qualities due to the high content of dry matter, sugar, as well as a pleasant aroma, homogeneous pulp with a small content of seeds.
The yield, both in the greenhouse and in the open field, is quite high.

Under favorable weather conditions, from one square meter, from 10 to 20 kg or 4-5 kg of tomatoes are harvested from one bush. A good harvest, in comparison with other varieties, it provides even in not the most successful years. Only a very sharp hypothermia can cause the plant to drop flowers and reduce the yield.

Advantages and disadvantages of tomato varieties

The variety has undoubted positive qualities:

  • disease resistance;
  • good taste;
  • high yield;
  • good transportability;
  • unique originality;
  • efficient use of usable space.

The disadvantages of the variety – the fragility of the stems and the shedding of the crop when harvested, are not a reason to refuse to grow it.

“Manhood” is not yet widely cultivated, many gardeners do not even know what kind of plant it is. And it is very similar to the famous “De-barao”, but it has a sweeter taste, a fleshy texture and begins to ripen earlier.

What conditions to grow tomatoes

Due to its mid-season and resistance to adverse weather conditions, Manhood can be grown both in greenhouses and in the open field. In the southern regions, there is enough heat and sun in the open ground, and in the northern regions it is better to plant under cover.

The tall variety is best suited for greenhouse cultivation. Using the peculiarity of the variety for a long time not to finish the growth of the main stem, you can significantly extend the growing season and harvest in the greenhouse. Plants are planted per 1 m²:

  • when forming into one stem – 3 plants;
  • when forming in 2 stems – 2.5 plants.

Planting seedlings in heated greenhouses is carried out from March, and in film greenhouses – from late April – early May, depending on the region.

For planting, the highest sections of the greenhouse are chosen, taking into account the tallness of the plant, or they are tied up in such a way as to lower the spent sections of the stem to the ground.Yellow Tomatoes Auria

It is necessary to provide for the possibility of daily ventilation of the greenhouse, watering the plants with warm water under the root, loosening the soil in order to create air exchange and favorable humidity in order to prevent the development of diseases.

Plants are planted in open ground at the onset of stable warm weather: in late May – early June. At an earlier planting date, seedlings must be covered to prevent hypothermia. 3-4 plants are planted per square meter of area and left in no more than 2 stems, securely tied to a support or trellis.

Overgrown seedlings must be buried as deep as possible into the soil, around the plant to form a deep hole for watering in such a way as not to spray it with water. It is necessary to remove the formed stepchildren and lower leaves in a timely manner so that they do not come into contact with the ground.

An important agrotechnical measure is loosening the soil, as it improves air exchange and promotes the development of a powerful root system.

Planting and caring for plants

Like any tall variety, Manhood tomatoes are grown through seedlings, which they begin to prepare 60 days before planting in the ground. Seedlings dive 7-10 days after germination in the phase of two true leaves.

Planting seedlings in the ground begins when favorable conditions occur. Planted in pre-prepared, well-heated and fertilized ridges. Organic fertilizers are applied in the fall for digging, before planting they are refueled with mineral fertilizers. The holes should be of such a size that the entire root system with a clod of earth fits, and only the top of the seedling is located above the surface of the earth. The distance between rows is maintained from 60 to 80 cm, in a row 40-60 cm, and the optimal planting pattern is in a checkerboard pattern.

Stepping plants must be carried out regularly, preventing the growth of shoots more than 3-5 cm. For the formation of the second stem, the first healthy stepson is left. Remove all shoots in the axils on the remaining stems. Stepchildren are not pulled out, but carefully broken out or cut off, leaving a small stump in the bosom to prevent the stepson from growing back.Red tomatoes Auria

At the same time, flower brushes are removed, on which fruits are not tied. The leaves on the trunk are also periodically broken off, leaving no more than two per 1 brush. By the end of the growing season, the top is broken off to allow the formed ovaries to gain weight and ripen.

Important! The best time for pinching is in the morning; in hot weather, this procedure is not recommended.

Tall plants are tied to a reliable support or, better, to a trellis. In the greenhouse, horizontal trellises are placed as high as possible. Given the fragility of the stem, it is necessary to use soft twine or special threads for garters.

It is better to attach the twine to the trellis using a double-sided hook with a supply of thread, which will allow you to lower the plants as the lower brushes mature.

In open ground, tying to a support is more often used, while it should be at least 1.2-1.5 m. So that the trunk does not sag under the weight of the fruit, you need to repeat the garter before each brush. The arrangement of the trellis in the open field will eliminate the need to have a separate support for each plant.

Top dressing of tomato plantings is carried out two weeks after planting and repeated after 10-12 days before the fruit ripens. For the first feeding, a solution of mullein in a ratio of 1:10 or chicken manure – 1:20 is well suited. Subsequent top dressing is carried out with complex mineral fertilizers (nitrophoska at the rate of 60 g per 10 l of water). Liquid consumption per 1 bush is from 1 liter before flowering, up to 2-5 liters – during flowering.

Attention! An excess amount of nitrogen fertilizers contributes to the formation of the green mass of the bush and a decrease in the number of ovaries.

Foliar fertilization with microelements has a beneficial effect on fertilization and fruit development.

Disease prevention and plant protection

The variety is quite resistant to the main tomato diseases, less than other varieties with similar terms are affected by late blight, but sometimes dry spotting appears, for which Tattu, Antrakol, Skor preparations are used.

With a lack of potassium, blossom end rot can develop. This problem will be solved by increasing the dose of potassium fertilizers during top dressing, as well as carrying out foliar top dressing with a solution (1 tablespoon per 10 liters of water) of calcium nitrate.

Of the pests, the most dangerous is the bear, which destroys the root system, as well as the spider mite and whitefly. To combat the bear, special poisoned baits are laid in the ground and traps are buried. To combat surface pests, the preparations “Strela”, “Phosbecid” and others are used, according to the manufacturer’s instructions.Harvested tomato crop

Subject to the following growing rules, the variety resists diseases during a long growing season:

  • disinfection of seeds (1% solution of potassium permanganate) and seedling mixture (strong solution of potassium permanganate and heating to 200 degrees);
  • soil disinfection before planting (foundation);
  • preventive treatments with copper-containing preparations every 12-14 days;
  • prevent thickening of the bush and plantings, irrigate with warm water, ensure ventilation of the greenhouse;
  • timely destroy diseased plants and fruits.

Watering a tomato should be plentiful, but rare. At the beginning of the growing season – once, on hot sunny days 2 times a week.

Which one was born, such, and came in handy

The variety is practically not cultivated on an industrial scale, but it is quite widespread among lovers of exotic vegetables.Three Auria tomatoes in hand

It deserves more attention, as it is suitable for all types of processing and fresh use:

  • in the production of juice, a fragrant, very thick, vitamin product is obtained, due to the composition of the pulp, the amount of waste is minimal. In the same connection, the production of tomato paste and puree is beneficial;
  • canning in its entirety allows rational use of the container, due to the oblong shape of the fruit;
  • dense tomatoes do not fall apart when salted in containers of any size, and retain a good taste for a long time;
  • the fleshy structure of the pulp makes it possible to use the variety in various salads both for fresh consumption and for canning, both with the addition of spices, and in combination with other vegetables and apples.
  • the fruits of the variety are suitable for drying due to the high content of dry matter (more than 5%).

The tomato variety “Manhood” can take its well-deserved place for a good harvest both in greenhouses and in the open field. Original fruits can improve economic efficiency. Its wide distribution is a matter of time.
