The smallest breeds of chickens

Almost every breed of chickens attracts poultry farmers with one or another of its distinctive features, characteristics, properties. Some birds attract household owners with their productive abilities: high egg production, tender, tasty meat, others have beautiful, colorful, unusual plumage and serve as a decoration of the yard.

In addition to standard sizes, there are also large and small feathered pets. Dwarf chickens are a miniature copy of the normal breed. There are quite a few of these birds today. The most popular of them are: Sussexes, Anconas, Benthams, Malaysian Serams and many others.

Sussexes are distinguished by high productivity, which is very important and unusual for small chickens. It is 120-130 eggs per year. The average egg weight is 40 grams. These are beautiful feathered pets, which are characterized by a calm, non-conflict character.

Ancona – chickens reaching a weight of 400-600 grams. They also have a fairly high egg production. The bird is very energetic and prefers space, so it is necessary to create large paddocks for it.

Benthams are characterized by bright, beautiful plumage and an unusual crest shape. Adults reach a live weight of 500 grams. Their egg production is about 70-90 pieces per year. The meat of these feathered pets is a delicacy, it is very tender and tasty. The individuals themselves are distinguished by an aggressive character, they often create conflict situations with other breeds, so keeping them in the same room with other chickens is problematic and even dangerous.

Malaysian Serams are the smallest chickens in the world. Their appearance is the result of crossing Japanese pygmy chickens with Malaysian banking chickens. They are perfect for keeping in a house or apartment.
