Breed of chickens – Greenleg

Greenleg chickens were bred in the second half of the 19th century. The homeland of the bird is Poland. These feathered pets have gained immense popularity not only among Polish amateur poultry farmers, but also abroad.

The annual egg production of laying hens varies between 140-180 eggs. The average egg weight is 50 grams. The egg shell is light brown in color. The live weight of adult chickens can reach two kilograms two hundred grams, and roosters – two kilograms seven hundred grams.

Greenlegs are well adapted to incubating eggs. They become very caring and responsible mothers, carefully monitor their offspring and protect chickens well. These birds are unpretentious. Throughout the day, they can independently search for food in the courtyard, entering and examining every corner. For feeding them, you do not need to purchase any special feed and products. They are happy to consume homemade mash.

Chickens of this breed are not susceptible to diseases. With timely infection, if it did happen, feathered pets quickly recover and get back on their feet.

The negative aspects of growing Greenlegs is the slow growth of chicks. They reach sexual maturity at the age of six months. And for these birds, cage keeping cannot be used, since their productivity in such conditions is much lower.

Greenleg chickens have a large, dense physique. Their plumage is magnificent, plentiful, beautiful. Long feathers grow densely on the bird’s neck. The wings are tightly pressed to the body and are barely visible due to the long lumbar plumage. The head of these feathered pets is wide, large. There is no plumage on the face. The lobes are shown in red. Earrings are rather long, shapeless. The strong beak is long and light gray or light yellow.

The chest, back, shoulders and belly of the Greenlegs are wide. Lush, thick feathers grow in the tail. The legs of the bird are strong, long, green.

Greenskins have a free-spirited nature. They cannot be kept in cages. They love walking and being outdoors regularly. The limited space can lead to the manifestation of aggression in individual individuals and the pecking of their neighbors in the chicken coop. In food, chickens are unpretentious. For their cultivation, homemade wet mash, which contains millet, wheat or barley, is suitable.
