Blue whiting benefits and harms

Blue whiting (Latin Micromesistius) is a marine fish of the cod family, very beautiful, silvery, with a purple back, which lives mainly in the northeastern regions of the Atlantic from Iceland to the Mediterranean Sea. In our country, it is found mainly in the western waters of the Barents Sea. Blue whiting lives quite deep, in the water column or at the bottom at a depth of more than 500 meters.

The size of this fish strongly depends on the region of its habitat – the northern individuals are much smaller than their southern relatives. Blue whiting is no more than 35 cm long and weighs no more than 400 grams. Southern individuals reach more than half a meter in length and gain weight over a kilogram. It is also found in some Antarctic regions. The benefits of blue whiting for the body are due to its composition.

Composition

Blue whiting is an excellent dietary product due to the low amount of fat in the composition and the abundance of high-quality, easily digestible protein with a high content of amino acids. Fat is included in blue whiting in small quantities – only about 1,2%, which makes it a low-fat fish.

Blue whiting is a low-fat fish.In addition to protein, which accounts for about 17%, and fat, the composition contains water, ash substances, vitamins A and D, iodine, phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, manganese, sodium and sulfur.
