A plant from North America, which became “Syrian” due to the mistake of the Italian naturalist Kortuna, who confused it with a plant from Syria, which has a similar appearance.

Perennial, reaches a height of 1,5 – 2 meters. The flowers are small, with petals 3-4 mm long, pink, purple or reddish in color. They are collected in beautiful umbellate inflorescences. The leaves of the plant are dark green with a wavy edge, reach a length of 20 cm, in width – 12 cm. Stems are erect, thickened.

Syrian vatochnik is curious in that it has a thick, reminiscent of the smell of chocolate, aroma during the flowering period, which begins in July and lasts for a whole month.

For this reason, Syrian Vatochnik is a honey plant. Up to 1 kg of fragrant and tasty honey can be harvested from 200 hectare.

It is also a medicinal plant. It is not for nothing that he is also called Asclepias, in honor of the ancient Greek god of healing Asclepius. The culture is used to treat acute cardiovascular and skin diseases, has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, and strengthens the immune system.

The appearance of the plant is not too flashy. In gardens, it is used to fill empty space in flower beds and to cover up unsightly buildings.

The flower grows on any soil, is unpretentious and hardy, tolerates both severe frosts and drought well. But it should be borne in mind that it is a weed and can grow, displacing other weeds and crops.

Askleias tuberose, or tuberous vatnik. A decorative look, used to decorate the garden, personal plots.

The height of the bush is 50-110 cm. The foliage is abundant, elongated, green or dark green, covered with soft hairs. The flowers are small, orange or orange-red, also collected in umbrella-shaped inflorescences.

It blooms effectively, profusely, for a long time, from the first – second decade of July to autumn frosts. Fills the air with a strong, pleasant aroma.

For the winter, Tuberose Vatochnik should be covered with spruce branches, and opened as soon as it starts to warm, so that the plant does not overwhelm. They plant it in well-lit, open and heated areas, but not in the shade. The plant grows well, so it makes sense to limit it with borders.

The most famous garden varieties: Gay Butterfly – bush height up to 70 cm, red, yellow and orange flowers; Maharaj’s vatnik – up to 50 cm tall, bright orange inflorescences.

Kurasavsky cotton wool

The only species that can be grown both in the garden and indoors. A good option for those who do not have a plot. However, it should be borne in mind that this is a fairly large plant (it can reach 70-80 cm) and it needs space. Therefore, a small pot will not work; it is best to use a tub for planting.

The stems of the flower are erect, the leaves are opposite, dark green above and gray-green below.

It blooms with interesting flowers of an unusual shape. In the center there is an orange-yellow “crown”, from which red or yellow stipules petals go down in a skirt. Flowers are collected in umbrellas up to 10 cm in diameter. Like other species, it has a strong aroma that attracts insects.

In a warm apartment, they could bloom all year round, but the reduction in the length of daylight hours in winter stops this process.

Needs bright, natural lighting, so it is preferable to place them on the lightest window sills. Feels good at temperatures from 15 to 18 degrees. In winter, if the room temperature exceeds these values, it is necessary to ensure constant spraying.

In relation to the soil, it is unpretentious, but requires abundant watering.

In general, the plant is quite undemanding to care for. The main disadvantage is that it quickly degenerates, which leads to the need to replace it with a new one.

From the poisonous juice of the kyurasavsky cotton wool, preparations are made to treat diseases of the uterus and appendages.
